Duties/Pligte

  • Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching of courses in Biblical Hebrew and Ancient Cultures (Ancient West Asian and North African Studies);
  • Postgraduate supervision in Biblical Hebrew;
  • Continuous research leading to the publication of research outputs in subject specific publications;
  • Active involvement in all departmental activities;
  • Active involvement in community interaction projects;
  • Effective performance of academic and administrative tasks.

  • Voorgraadse en nagraadse onderrig van kursusse in Bybelse Hebreeus en Antieke Kulture (Antieke Wes-Asiatiese en Noord-Afrikastudies);
  • Nagraadse studieleiding in Bybelse Hebreeus;
  • Voortgesette navorsing wat sal lei tot die publikasie van navorsingsuitsette in vakgerigte publikasies;
  • Aktiewe betrokkenheid by alle departementele aktiwiteite;
  • Aktiewe betrokkenheid by gemeenskapsinteraksieprojekte;
  • Effektiewe uitvoering van akademiese en administratiewe verpligtinge.

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes
  • A doctoral degree in Biblical Hebrew/Ancient Semitic Languages, or demonstrable progress in doctoral studies in Biblical Hebrew/Semitic Languages;
  • Experience in teaching Biblical Hebrew to students of theology and the humanities;
  • Supervision of postgraduate projects in Biblical Hebrew;
  • Demonstrated research potential in the above-mentioned research area;
  • The ability to work independently as well as in a team;
  • Flexibility to get involved in the curricula and modules offered by die Department of Ancient Studies;
  • Proficiency in the use of information technologies in the teaching and studying of Biblical Hebrew and Ancient Cultures.

  • 'n Doktorsgraad in Bybelse Hebreeus/Antieke Semitiese Tale, of bewese vordering met doktorale studie in Bybelse Hebreeus/Semitiese Tale;
  • Ervaring in die onderrig van Bybelse Hebreeus aan studente in die teologie en geesteswetenskappe;
  • Studieleiding van nagraadse projekte in Bybelse Hebreeus;
  • Bewese navorsingspotensiaal in bogenoemde navorsingsgebied;
  • Die vermoë om onafhanklik sowel as in `n span te werk;
  • Buigsaamheid om betrokke te raak by die leerplanne en modules wat deur die Departement Antieke Studie aangebied word;
  • Vaardigheid in die gebruik van informasietegnologieë in die onderrig en bestudering van Bybelse Hebreeus en Antieke Kulture.

Recommendation/Aanbeveling

  • Demonstrable knowledge of related research areas (e.g., the languages and cultures of ancient West Asia and/or ancient North Africa, ancient Greek and Latin), with the ability to teach in these areas;
  • The ability to supervise postgraduate projects in Biblical Hebrew, Bible Translation and Ancient Cultures;
  • Proficiency in isiXhosa or another official language of South Africa;
  • The ability to function well in a multilingual environment with diverse academic offerings.

  • Bewese kennis van verwante navorsingsareas (bv., die tale en kulture van antieke Wes-Asië en/of antieke Noord-Afrika, antieke Grieks en Latyn) en die vermoë om daarin onderrig te gee;
  • Die vermoë om studieleiding aan nagraadse projekte in Bybelse Hebreeus, Bybelvertaling en Antieke Kulture te bied;
  • Vaardigheid in isiXhosa of 'n ander amptelike Suid-Afrikaanse taal;
  • Die vermoë om goed te funksioneer in `n meertalige omgewing met uiteenlopende akademiese aanbiedinge.
